Well, old fellows!
We sailed on the same ship for 9 months by way of our blog "Way of the Pyrats" and now you're welcome aboard "www.pyrats.net" to know how and where the adventure began!

It was a very difficult voyage through tumultuous waters, landing on dangerous lands and meeting weird creatures, but it was a fantastic odyssey!

From now it is the spectators who will take the helm of the ship and navigate their way to unexplored territories through our website.

since one week ,we began the animation part ...it's a bit hard for everybody because we didn't animate since this last few months and we have to remember there is a lot a animation to produce

we're also enjoying the "3d part" ,that's very hard to be able to match the 3d background and the 2d characters .....hope we'll succeed T_T
and a little bit of distraction watching "eureka 7" from Bones studio.....at this moment we were very impressed by the quality of animation for this serie

If you're paying attention to our wonderful "we're making a moooovie" adventure, you remember last week terrible cliffhanger: we were about to show to an audience our latest animatic (storyboard in motion with soundfx, and music -made by your truly, btw, tee-hee).
We were not anxious, no. We were just bloody tired, ready to face criticism again, like we had to the past month.
So we've pushed the big red "play" button (there isn't such a thing as a "big red play button" but i'm trying to sounda little melodramatic here, thank you.), and waited.

oh my god.

oh... my.... sweet Baby Jesus.

They laughed!
There really, honestly, frankly LAUGHED!
and they were like "ooh" and "waah"!

and when they turned the lights on again, everybody could see the 5 most moronicly (is that a word?) happy faces ever.

SO!
it went well.
Actually beyond our wildest dreams, it went pretty fine.
So now we're really in the production area, currently drawing the 34 layouts so we can begin to animate as soon as possible.

we cross our fingers and knocking on wood so everything will be okay....

We're quite a bunch of lucky guys, after all.
Here we are, making a movie we like, with people we like, enjoying this simple facts most of the time.
Yeah we're lucky. But let me tell you...

...making a movie ain't for sissies.
Especially when 5 directors are arguing all day long about what good and what's bad, thinking over and over and over, and when you finally think you've made it, DANG!
You've got to start it all over again.
It's easy to go crazy and loose your mind when you're creating something like this. Actually, I think we've already lost it for good.
I know, I know, I may sound way too melodramatic here. But tomorrow we're showcasing our latest animatic to an audience, in front of our teachers and fellow students.
We kind of feel like some kid who's drawn something he putted body and soul in it and fearing the look of an adult's eye. You know, the "aaaaw it's cute, good boy, but... why did you drew his underpants ON his pants? " "It's because it's SUPERMAN, muuuum....."
Actually we're quite anxious about how they will react to it.
Or, to be specific, not react AT ALL.
Because we're 5 to making this movie, you can't totally rely on yourself and tell to the world "it's like that, this is how i wanted it to be". But we're 90 per cent sure this movie is like we wanted it to be so far. and the 10 per cen left are killing us right now.

ANYWAYYYY enough whinings.
This will be cool i guess.
You know, there're pirates in this movie.

this week end ,we spend 3 days with Ysengrin trying to sculpt two of the characters in the movie ...just to understand volume
well ,it was very difficult and we didn't "really" finish it (and they begin to crack)...but it was fun at all
you can see behind me the inspirations of animation students :) (in fact the inspirations of Ysengrin because we were in his appartment )

Pas de dessin aujourd'hui...juste un petit topo sur l'avancement du projet

Après avoir galéré comme des ânes sur une première animatique ,on s'est finalement rendu compte jeudi dernier que le timing,l'enchainement des plans ,bref tout ce qui fait un film, était complètement pourri...Après en avoir cauchemardé toute la nuit ,on a repris les choses en main et on a bossé tout le week end pour arrivé à un résultat vraiment plus bandant ,plus fun en tout cas .

On est crevé ,on travaille 12h par jour et en plus ce soir Gladines (le restaurant qu'il est trop bien et trop pas cher) était blindé.Mais au moins le film est bien plus trippant

Essai de décor def !

Voilà ce que pourrait donner les décors du film...
Enfin ce n'est pas arrêté de façon officielle, mais c'est une proposition qui a plutôt satisfait l'équipe. J'ai mélanger du traditionnel (utilisation de textures faites à l'acrylique et à l'aquarelle) et du Toshop. J'ai mis un jour et demi pour le faire, et quand je pense qu'avec Ben on en a une trentaine à se taper !!!!.......... J'ai peur...... oh oui j'ai peur...

recherche d'ambiance couleur(très peu détaillée)

on arrive dans une phase de recherches où la bible graphique commence à se préciser ,les designs des personnages prennent forme, les ambiances couleur aussi...mais on galère avec les décors
Disons que les références qu'on peut trouver sur les ports de cette époque sont assez minces ,et puis en même temps on essaye de trouver des formes intéressantes pour le village...d'ailleurs si quelqu'un avait quelques billets gratuits pour aller aux caraïbes et faire des croquis sur place.

Voilà 1 mois déjà que l'équipage s'est engagé dans cette périlleuse aventure.
Déjà, les traits sont tirés, les mains caleuses, le scorbut guette, mais le moral reste bon.
Le prédécoupage est maintenant presque derrière nous, le timing de l'animatique se fait plus précis jours après jours, et le board clean avec les premiers layouts devraient bientot pointer le bout de leur nez adipeux.
Les design définitifs sont en passe de finalisation, quelques proposition de clean up par ci, une précision de vêtement par là, un avant gout de l'assistanat à venir, si loin si proche.
Pendant un mois les cerveaux furent mis à rude épreuve. La mise en image du script a été une bataille de tous les instant. Le paperboard a souffert, beaucoup de cigarettes innocentes furent carbonisées et autant de cafés engloutis... Des ardeurs furent calmées pendant que d'autres s'attisaient au feu brulant de la passion qui nous anime tous, celle de faire un bon film.
Doux jesus, ce n'est que le début.
Puisse le Grand Navigateur Borgne De l'Univers nous venir en aide dans les moments difficiles à venir.

Pyrats (titre provisoire) est le titre d'un court métrage en court de dévelloppement à l'école des gobelins à Paris...court métrage d'animation fait par des étudiants en dernière année et qui sera projeté à Annecy en juin 2006

il nous reste donc 6 mois avant avril, date où les films doivent être finis ....
